Dangerous rush hour rat-running on Selkirk Road

Statement

The Council are asked to undergo a review of traffic conditions and potential options.

Details

When we moved to Selkirk Road, one thing that was very obvious was that roughly between 3-6pm each weekday, there was a huge increase in very fast moving (I don’t have a speed camera, but can tell when a vehicle is driving in excess of the speed limit) Westbound traffic. This increase in traffic coincides, and is a symptom of when the A316 Westbound is queuing between the Meadway junction and Hospital Bridge roundabout. Essentially, drivers on the A316 are coming off at the Meadway and speeding down Selkirk Road to avoid having to queue for 1/2 mile. This also coincides with the afternoon school run, with many children, including ours, cycling home from school, or afterschool clubs between 3 and 5pm. The speed that some of those vehicles travel down Selkirk Road, complete disregard for the narrow passage when cars are legally parked on each side and safety of residents & children presents a serious safety concern.
