Details
Kneller gardens is a wonderful community space with hundreds of local residents coming every day to relax, exercise and play sports. The park has many sports facilities, including three tennis courts, two basketball hoops yet only one ping pong table. Table tennis, originally called ‘whiff whaff’ was invented in England in the late 19th century. It is an incredibly popular sport in London and is enjoyed across the borough. Many often come to the one table that is in the park, hoping to play with friends and family but the table is always being used. Even though many wait for long amounts of time, the table is never free. We, the undersigned believe it would make more people happy if there was an extra table for more people to play on. Thank you for listening.

Council response
The Council recognises that table tennis is an accessible and enjoyable way for people of all ages to be active outdoors, and appreciates the local interest in the existing table at Kneller Gardens.
Kneller Gardens already has a wide range of sports and play facilities, including one table tennis table, and has benefited from significant investment in recent years. The Council receives requests for table tennis tables across the borough, so future provision needs to be considered strategically, including opportunities to provide facilities in parks that do not currently have them. We are undertaking a borough wide Play Sufficiency Strategy and will add this request to that list.
There is currently no identified funding for an additional table at Kneller Gardens. We will, however, retain the petition as evidence of local demand and consider it alongside other requests when future investment opportunities arise. The Council will also explore opportunities for residents, local businesses and community organisations to support recreational facilities in parks and open spaces, including the potential sponsorship of table tennis tables, building on existing approaches such as memorial bench sponsorship.
