Halt the rollout of 5G infrastructure and technology in LBRuT until it is proven to be safe technology.

Statement

We, the undersigned, petition the Council to uphold their Constitutional remit to protect their constituent’s health, safety and wellbeing and halt the rollout of 5G infrastructure and technology in the borough and invoke the Precautionary Principal, adopted by the EU in 2005, which states: “When human activities may lead to morally unacceptable harm that is scientifically plausible but uncertain, actions shall be taken to avoid or diminish that harm.” We insist that the Council invoke the Precautionary Principal regarding 5G technology and all associated infrastructure before deploying it in our borough. We (the residents) now call for independent research and for the Council to prove that 5G is SAFE and poses no risk to human health, animals, wildlife, insects, birds and the ecosystem as a whole with a full public consultation. Once 5G is deployed fully, it will expose people to mandatory radiation, at all times, without their informed consent, which constitutes a blatant breach of their Human Rights and violates The Nuremburg Code. 

Details

1. Alarmingly, no known telecoms industry studies or research have been conducted on the adverse effects of Radio Frequency-Electro Magnetic Fields (RF-EMF) from 5G technology.

2. PHE (Public Health England), WHO (World Health Organisation), ICNIRP (International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection) and other such bodies are all quoting outdated research from over 20 years ago and all have legal disclaimers relieving them of any liability for the information on their websites. PHE are a government body, and the government have a vested financial interest in 5G and its infrastructure. This constitutes a conflict of interest for PHE.

3. The Council have an obligation to adhere to the 7 Principles of Public Life/Code of Conduct which include: SELFLESSNESS - Holders of public office should act solely in terms of the public interest. ACCOUNTABILITY - Holders of public office are accountable to the public for their decisions and actions and must submit themselves to the scrutiny necessary to ensure this. OPENNESS - Holders of public office should act and take decisions in an open and transparent manner. Information should not be withheld from the public unless there are clear and lawful reasons for doing so.

4. Harmful effects of RF-EMF exposure have been proven by a number of controlled studies. More than 230 scientists from 41 countries have expressed their “serious concerns” regarding the ubiquitous and increasing exposure to EMF generated by electric and wireless devices, already existing before additional 5G rollout. They refer to the fact that “numerous recent scientific publications have shown that EMF adversely affects living organisms at levels well below most international and national guidelines”. Effects include: increased cancer risk, cellular stress, increase in harmful free radicals, genetic damages, structural and functional changes of the reproductive system, learning and memory deficits, neurological disorders and general negative wellbeing in general on humans. Children are particularly vulnerable to biological and behavioural damage as are our animals and insects, including our valued pollinators.

5. The EUROPA EM-EMF Guideline 2016 states that “there is strong evidence that long-term exposure to certain EMF’s is a risk factor for such diseases as certain cancers, Alzheimer’s disease and infertility. Common EHS (electromagnetic hypersensitivity) symptoms include headaches, concentration difficulties, sleep problems, depression, lack of energy, fatigue and flu-like symptoms.” This will negatively impact our already struggling NHS and doctors as more and more people become sick.

6. On 9th July 2019 The Council declared a Climate Change Emergency in the borough and resolved to be the Greenest London Borough by 2030 and be carbon neutral. This aim will be adversely affected and accelerated, impacting negatively on climate change by 5G Frequency Emissions and ‘Smart’ technology, as it is carbon intensive with increased electricity usage and a blanket of 5G Frequency Emissions that will heat the environment. EMFs are classified as a ‘pollutant” alongside smoke, chemicals and asbestos. There has already been extensive felling of thousands of healthy mature trees in areas earmarked for 5G infrastructure across the UK to allow the 5G Frequency Emissions better coverage. Mature trees in this borough may well have to be felled. Large, older trees have been found to grow faster and absorb carbon dioxide more rapidly than younger, smaller trees, making them environmentally superior and very valuable.
