Traffic Rationalisation in Burlington & Beechwood Avenues, Kew

Statement

We, the undersighned, petition the Council to investigate the options for making Burlington and Beechwood Avenues one way (in a similar manner to Leybourne Park and Cumberland Road) to alleviate the frequent congestion caused by traffic attempting to go up and down Burlington Avenue at the same time.

Details

Very many times over the last few years, but increasingly in the last few months, there have been considerable traffic problems in Burlington Avenue. Burlington Avenue is a two-way road, but with cars continually parked either side, there is space in the middle for only one vehicle to travel along it at any one time. Such is the density of parking that there is often no spare space for one vehicle to pass another. The most recent memorable incident was a few days ago, when an Ocado delivery van had to reverse over half-way back down to West Park Road to allow two cars and a school mini-bus to also proceed in that direction. Residents in both Avenues could be consulted as to which Avenue should run North-South and which South-North. The forthcoming introduction of a 20 mph speed limit in Kew should alleviate any concerns that a one-way system might cause traffic to flow faster.
