REQUEST FOR A CONTROLLED PARKING ZONE (CPZ) on Somerton Avenue

We, the undersigned residents and occupants of Somerton and Clifford Avenue and directly affected neighbouring roads, formally petition the Council to introduce a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) with limited-time operational restrictions in our area.

Why We Need Action Now: The parking situation on our street has become completely untenable. Residents can no longer park near their own homes due to severe, compounding pressures: • Commuter & Station Overspill: Heavy daily volume from motorists using North Sheen and Mortlake stations. • Commercial Blockers: Overflow from nearby businesses, including staff, customer cars, and commercial vehicles from businesses on Lower Richmond Road. • Long-Term Parkers: Vehicles and large vans left for weeks at a time—frequently monopolizing EV charging lampposts while owners travel overseas—along with accumulating abandoned cars. • Permit Displacement: Heavy spillover from adjacent roads where drivers dodge existing restrictions. We request a time-limited CPZ (such as restricted midday hours) to deter all-day commercial and commuter parking, stop long-term vehicle blocking, and restore safety, access, and priority to the local community.
