We, the undersigned, strongly petition the Council and TfL to review the existing road layout and signal phasing/timings at the junction of Queens Rd/Manor Rd/Sheen Road to make it safer for for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians. We recognise that TfL manage and maintain all traffic signals and would only make changes in collaboration with the Council.

I am long term resident of Richmond and have lived on both Manor Road and lower Queens Road for over twenty years. I travel through this junction daily (either by car, bike or on foot) and can vouch for the fact that this junction is extremely dangerous for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. I understand the Council are aware of the dangers at this junction and are currently investigating options to make it safer for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians working with TfL. I am creating this petition to gather support from local residents regarding this issue in order to create some urgency and action. As this junction has experienced a number of recent vehicle and cycling accidents - I wish to apply pressure on the Council to urgently work with TfL to review the traffic signals at the junction and make the necessary changes to make it safer for all. This junction is one of the busiest intersections in Richmond for vehicle traffic travelling to/from Kingston to Richmond and Richmond to/from Sheen. Thousands of cars, buses, cyclists and pedestrians (young and old) use the junction on a daily basis. It is also a junction that is hemmed in the middle of 5 local schools (Marshgate PS, Holy Trinity PS, St Elizabeth's Catholic PS, Kings House School and Christ's Secondary School) and I have regularly observed children running across the intersection when it is not safe to do so. Christ's Secondary School staff man the junction daily in fluro jackets to ensure the safety of their pupils crossing it. Currently vehicles turn on red traffic signals and are not observing cyclists at this junction. Pedestrians are walking (often running!) on red signals as there is not sufficient time to cross the intersection safely. The junction urgently needs: 1. Dedicated traffic signals (green arrows) to enable vehicles/cyclists to turn right safely from Queens Road into Sheen Road; 2. Dedicated traffic signals (green arrows) to enable vehicles/cyclists to turn right safely from Sheen Road into Queens Road (when travelling east) AND Sheen Road into Manor Road (when travelling west); and 3. A diagonal crossing for pedestrians with sufficient time to cross. Please sign and share this petition to your neighbours and local friends to gather suppport for these safety changes.
