Examine the current excess traffic and implement changes to these roads to overcome the unreasonable use of our residential roads as a rat run. The morning rush hour traffic produces flows in excess of 180 vehicles in a 20 minute period between 7.30am and 8.30 am. Traffic completely blocks Cross Deep Gardens at this time as well as the southern section of Radnor Road and a large part of Tennyson Avenue. As residents it is almost impossible to get out of a parking space in these roads at this time as drivers are reluctant to lose their place in the queue. The other key issue is that when this traffic has eased and the roads are less busy vehicles (including cars, vans and large lorries) are often seen speeding at well over the 20mph speed limit. It is not possible for residents to measure these speeds but they have been assessed at well over 30mph and possible much faster.

We have been in touch with local Councillors and with members of the Transport and Air Quality committee and there were traffic counts (in late 2022) and a report for traffic in the larger area. Our local roads were not deemed to have significant traffic at the time and no changes were proposed. Clearly things have significantly changed as traffic flows and the resultant congestion are much worse now than at the time of the earlier study. We believe that it is crucial now for the Council to undertake another traffic survey in these local roads during term time as we have two schools very close by. This survey will establish the situation and the Council can then consider the appropriate action to reduce these nuisances in congestion at rush hours and speeding outside these times.
