Install benches for public use in Ashburnham Road and Woodville Road, Ham

Statement

We, the undersigned, petition the Council to install at least four benches for public use in the Ham area, preferably on Ashburnham Road and Woodville Road.

Details

There are very few benches available for those who need them when walking between home and local shops or bus stops in the area bounded by Riverside Drive, Ham Street and Ashburnham Road. This makes it difficult for people to do everyday things like shopping or catching a bus, particularly given the distances people need to walk to the bus stops from the roads closer to Riverside Drive. It is also an issue for elderly people and those with mobility issues, and anyone suffering from long Covid or other health issues.

In order to improve health by encouraging mobility and increase access to public transport, benches for public use are needed to break up what can feel like an impossible journey. The only public benches currently are on Ham Green and outside St Richard’s Church.  Potential locations might include outside the Woodville Centre and near Ham Children’s Centre, but these would be decided in consultation with the Council and residents.
