There are only FOUR lamp post charging points for electrical vehicles in Ham and Petersham, while other areas in the Borough like Kew and Twickenham have 40 or so within a square mile. The lack of EV charging is forcing residents to stick with petrol/diesel cars. Fast charge points should be installed on Ham Parade and St Richards Court (Ashburnham Road).
The disparity between the number of EV chargers in Ham/Petersham and other areas in Richmond is completely wrong. While there are plans to install two more on Simpson/Hardwick Road, these will not meet resident demand. Most of Ham and Petersham is a desert, as the Zap Map will show you: https://www.zap-map.com/live/. A number of local residents have either decided not to buy an electric vehicle, chosen hybrid instead of electric or, astoundingly, given back their electric car for a petrol one, due to the lack of charging facilities. Other parts of the borough have much higher levels of EV charging points, and while Ham/Petersham may have infrastructure issues, such as green verges and lamp posts set back from the pavement edge, there are alternative options from different companies that could be considered. There are also recessed parking areas in the ward, along with shopping parades (Ham Parade and St Richard's Court) that could have fast charging points installed. It is time to bring Ham and Petersham more in line with other parts of the borough.
