This petition is to show support and to prove that there is a genuine local need for a new concrete skatepark in the Borough, more specifically in the Richmond Park Constituency. The new skatepark should be a free-to-use, safe, inclusive and family orientated sports facility for users of all ages. Professionally designed and constructed by a company selected by the Richmond Skatepark Project with design input from local skatepark users.
Skateparks are proven to increase health, well-being, community cohesion whilst reducing social exclusion and anti-social behaviour. A skatepark can offer an alternative creative and individualistic sport for those who haven’t engaged in team activities. The skatepark will not only benefit skatepark users, it will enhance the town and will be an asset to the whole community. Currently there is no locally accessible skatepark if one lives in the Richmond Park Consituency, the minimum journey by foot is an hour and a half, or thirty minutes by bike, or forty minutes by public transport. Seeing as the community is already large there is an oppurtunity to provide a central hub for the learning and development of the newly Olympic sport in the Richmond Park area.
