Combining the energetic discussion of a traditional book group with exploring our beautiful borough on foot, Novel Steps is a walking-and-reading group that meets monthly to chat about books, life, the universe, and everything. Each session follows a planned route, led by an experienced volunteer so you can focus on enjoying the gentle exercise, fresh air, and friendly conversation. Walks are roughly three miles long, and copies of the books are provided in advance. For our Halloween walk this October 31st, we will be walking a route along the River Crane in St Margarets and Twickenham whiel discussing The Haunting of Alma Fielding by Kate Summerscale. Described as "a detective novel, a ghost yarn and a historical record rolled into one", this is the true story of Alma Fielding, a Croydon woman who enlisted the help of a ghost hunter in 1938 after a series of unexplained events.
