No to Turing House School in Whitton

Statement

We, the undersigned, petition the council to draw to the attention of the Education Funding Agency the local concerns in relation to the possible location for building the new Turing House Secondary School.

Details

This new free school needs to be built nearer to its catchment area to best serve the residents.

The Whitton site is within 1/4 of a mile of five other schools, in an area where the road infrastructure cannot cope with the current situation, resulting in constant gridlock on school runs and rush hour. There are no transport links to the site with only one bus, the 481, passing once an hour. There has been no local consultation with residents and none of the local Councillors are replying to our concerns.

The main concern for the Whitton site is that it is Metropolitan Open Land and should not be built on. There is also a proposal to use Springfield Road as the route to the site entrance. This could only be achieved if a road was built through Heathfield Recreation Ground, itself an Open Green Space used every day for children to play, dog walking and numerous football clubs. This is a totally unacceptable idea, to destroy two large sections of land for a school that has an admissions policy of just 20% for Whitton children.

Please rethink this idea and do not build on the Whitton site.
