New zebra crossing at the Station Road/Percy Road junction, Hampton

Statement

Introduce a new zebra crossing at the junction of Station Road and Percy Road in Hampton to improve pedestrian safety, accessibility, and connectivity.

Details

The Station Road/Percy Road junction is a key pedestrian route serving a supermarket, Hampton railway station, and nearby schools. A new zebra crossing would provide a safe and accessible crossing point for pupils, commuters, shoppers, and other residents, particularly during peak periods when traffic levels are higher. The scheme would improve pedestrian safety, encourage walking and public transport use, and enhance accessibility for vulnerable users, including children, older people, and those with mobility impairments. As a relatively low-cost intervention, it would deliver significant community benefits while supporting the council's active travel and road safety objectives.

Rejection Reason

The Council does not believe that consent is possible for a zebra crossing at the suggested location under the Level Crossings Act. In accordance with the petitions scheme, the petition is therefore refused as it does not relate to a matter that the Council can affect.
