Statement
We, the undersigned, call on Network Rail, the Department for Transport, and the relevant train operating company to prioritise the installation of full step-free access at St Margaret's Station London. While one platform currently offers some accessible access, the lack of lifts or ramps makes the station difficult or impossible to use. This affects not only wheelchair users, but also parents with prams, older people, pregnant passengers, people with temporary injuries, those travelling with heavy luggage, and anyone with limited mobility. The current situation creates unnecessary barriers to accessing work, education, healthcare, and leisure activities. In many cases, passengers are forced to travel to another station, rely on assistance, or avoid rail travel altogether. This is inconvenient, costly, and excludes people from using public transport independently. Step-free access is not simply a convenience—it is an essential part of creating an inclusive, safe, and accessible transport network. Improving accessibility would: * Enable disabled passengers to travel independently and with dignity. * Support parents, carers, and older residents. * Encourage greater use of public transport, helping to reduce congestion and emissions. * Improve the station for visitors and tourists carrying luggage. * Future-proof the station for an ageing population and growing passenger numbers. We ask the responsible organisations to: 1. Commit to delivering step-free access at St Margaret's Station especially to platform 1. 2. Include the station in the next round of accessibility funding programmes. 3. Publish a clear timeline for design, funding, and construction. 4. Engage with local residents, disability groups, and community organisations throughout the process. Everyone should be able to use their local railway safely and independently. Accessible transport benefits the entire community, and it is time for St Margaret's to become a station that everyone can use. We urge the relevant authorities to make this long-overdue improvement a priority.
