We, the undersigned, petition the council to review the current proposal for the re-development of The Avenue Centre, Normansfield Avenue and reconsider whether it should be used to support the expansion of Hampton Wick Infant and Nursery School.
As the decision to change the use of this site was made before the council identified the acute need for additional school places in the local area, and since Hampton Wick Infant and Nursery School has been selected for expansion, we feel the current proposal is no longer appropriate.
It is our belief that the school, its children and the local community would be better served if the council reviewed the proposal to sell the majority of the land for private development and allowed it to be used to support the expansion of a school which is at the very heart of the community. The space is currently designated for community use and under the current proposal the majority of it would be lost to the community completely.
