Measures for the prevention of Trespassing

Statement

We, the undersigned, petition the Council to implement measures to prevent trespassing in open spaces in Ham. Investment is required to secure our open public spaces for local residents and put an end to the increasing presence of trespassers and those unlawfully seeking access to council land.

Details

The council are in a cat and mouse game with tresspassers who are illegally gaining access to our open spaces, then leaving with considerable investment required to clean up and make the spaces safe for local people. Current security measures are not appropriate and need upgrading and maintaining.

Council response

The Council can confirm that Leading Construction have started the reinstating of the concrete bollards at Ham Riverside Pitches, this is to ensure that the widths of bollards are a consistent 1.6 metre centre and that they are installed 600mm into the ground. Once they have finished this task they will then begin the reinstating of the ditch, using the spoil to create a ‘bund’.

Once this has been completed, the Parks Services Manager will be meeting with the Councils Grounds Maintenance Contractor (Continental Landscapes) to arrange for a suitable seed mix to be incorporated into the ‘bund’ so that as it establishes it is in-keeping with the surrounding area.

There is a considerable cost involved in trying to secure every open space in Ham and indeed the borough, where we have over 130 parks to manage.
